2019-2020 Membership and player licences

Please note the following article is primarily for players who are playing in the Dorset Basketball Association or South West Regional Leagues. If you are a National League player, you will have been sent a separate email.

Basketball England have launched a new licencing process for the 2019-2020 season, which means that club administrators can no longer enter all the information themselves, with the responsibility being passed to players (or those with parental responsibility if a player is under 18).

Basketball England’s is aiming to improve its GDPR compliance, accept payments simply online, and build in documentation uploading and checks for qualifications and safeguarding assurance.

To play for Dorset Storm within the first four weeks of your first training session you will need to:

1) Complete the club membership form

The cost of our membership will stay the same – this includes contributions to the entry fees to all competitions and the top up of your local licence to the Dorset Basketball Association amongst other things. This is despite the cost to enter competitions and local top up fees increasing.

Our membership form can be access by following this link: https://forms.gle/fJJvTzYuF5LPJbMw8

2) Obtain a playing licence from Basketball England

This one is a little more complicated but should still be relatively straightforward. Here are the key things to know.

1) Head over to https://www.basketballengland.co.uk/become-a-be-member/

2) Once here there are some help guides and videos down the pages if needed, but you will need to click on the button labelled ‘Access the Membership Portal’ to proceed

3) From here you will be able to create an account by clicking on the sign up button – this will need to be done by someone with parental responsibly for any under 18 players.

4) Once you have completed the details you will have to become a member of Basketball England… this will cost £8.50 for juniors and £15.00 for seniors

5) You will then need to select your club – you can search for Dorset Storm, click on the club and then agree to join.

6) A passport style photo will also need to be uploaded to complete your licence

After the six steps above have all been completed we will receive an email saying you have done this.  We will then be able to allocate you to a team which will then give both you and us access to your licence card that you will need to play!

Simple as anything isn’t it?! :)

When you are ready, feel free to have a go at signing up!

Those that have been a player in previous seasons will have noticed that Basketball England have increased the price at the same time as introducing this new system. The price increase is around 20% from last year – as previously, all the money that you pay for your licence goes straight to Basketball England.

Any questions please let us know and we will do our best to help!
