NBL Preview – Under 16s versus Cardiff

Dorset Storm Under 16s are in action again this weekend as they face Cardiff Archers at Rossmore Leisure Centre. The team will be looking to have made improvements following a weekend off as they continue to build on their positive start to the season.

NBL Under 16s preview vs Cardiff 2Coach Luke Kemish, was content with the start the team had made but insisted that there was still plenty more to come.

“We have been pleased with the start we have made.  Three games in, and we have improved hugely from game to game. The challenge is to keep that rate of improvement up.  Training has been really intense and the majority of players have been really competitive with each other.”

Storm have looked solid defensively in all three games, and coach Kemish hopes that the game in Somerset can be used as a tool for his players to become more aggressive.

“We were great in the first half against Somerset.  In the second half, I wanted us to show more fight, to stand up and be counted and we showed a little immaturity and let them dominate us too easily.

I know the players are going to come out and take it personally at the defensive end, that’s one thing we have to of learnt!”

Kemish also praised his team ‘senior players’ who he says are starting to lead by example.

“We haven’t named one captain this year, the players are doing it by committee and it’s great to see some many of them wanting to lead without any real input from the coaches.  We have leaders all over the floor which is great and will ultimately make us more successful.”

NBL Under 16s preview vs Cardiff 1Storm can expect to faced an aggressive and organised Cardiff team who will fight and hustle for everything.  Storm will need to be ready to play if they are to compete against the Welsh side, something that coach Kemish is confident his side will be.

“We will have had a series of good sessions and with the weekend off I am sure that will make us even more hungry.”

The coaches are hoping to have a full squad to select from but as usual are yet to make any choices.

The game tips-of at 1.30pm at Rossmore Leisure Centre on Saturday, and is followed by the Under 18s taking on Somerset at 3.30pm, lots of support on the side lines would be greatly appreciated by the players.
