Good night for Storm in SBL Under 14s

Dorset Storm Basketball Club Solent League Under 14s Friday 13th December 201340Storm II maintain their unbeaten record to top the league at Christmas.

In the opening game Storm I faced Weymouth. Storm I got off to a good start as Aidan Squires scored inside.  Weymouth responded with a point from the foul line before Harry Jackson, Jack Axon and Callum Crook all added further scores as Storm held 13 – 4 at the end of the first.  Storm I maintained a good defensive effort in the second period, whilst Axon continued to show his range of skills at the offensive end to help Storm I to a 30 – 8 half time lead.  The third quarter continued with more good Storm basketball as Harry Ingram and Lloyd Roberts continued to keep the scoreboard sticking over.  Storm I maintained their focus in the final quarter as they ran out 61 – 13 winners.

Both teams exchanged baskets in the early going. Six first quarter points from Charlie Long was enough to help Storm II hold a 10 – 6 advantage at the end of the first period.  Josh Strongman, Harry Batson and Owen Hale all added baskets in the second quarter as Storm II extended their advantage to 16 – 8 at the half.  An unconvincing start to the third period saw Weymouth reduced the deficit to four points at 16 – 20.  Rory Pearson scored the final six points of the quarter for Storm II though as they took a 26 – 16 lead into the final period.  Storm II managed to maintain their lead throughout the final quarter as they wrapped up a 36 – 26 victory.

The final game was the interclub battle as the two Storm teams faced off again.  Dorset Storm Basketball Club Solent League Under 14s Friday 13th December 201342Storm II got off to a flying start as Tom Stocks, Conor Waring and Rory Pearson helped them to a 8 – 0 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Storm I came fighting back in the second period as Callum Crook led the charge with two early baskets.  Batson and Hale added two late baskets for Storm II though as they still held a lead at the half, 17 – 14.  A tight third quarter saw both teams exchange baskets, but neither team could get total control of the game.  Smooth moves from Stocks and Crook were the highlights for their respective teams. Storm I had to chase the game in the final period as despite some early success Storm II played smart basketball as they held on for a 28 – 18 victory, to maintain their unbeaten record heading into the New Year.
