Double triumph for Under 12s in SBL

Dorset Storms Under 12s continued to show their improvement with two impressive performances.

Dorset Storm Under 12s were looking to continue their impressive development as they took to the court in the Solent Basketball League on Friday night.  Storm were in action against fellow table toppers Weymouth in the opening game.  Storm got off to a good start, but they failed to capitalise as lots of shots were missed in and around the basket early on.  The game remained at 2 – 2 until Harry Jackson scored back to back baskets in the final minute of the first quarter to give Storm a 6 – 2 lead.  Storms impressive defence continued, putting great pressure on Weymouth’s guards.  By the half Storm had extended their lead to 12 – 2.  Storm were not in the mood to stop improving though, and in the third quarter produced some of their best basketball of the season extending their lead to 23 – 6 at the end of the stanza.  The final period saw Storm continue to play good basketball, and in the end they ran out 33 – 8 winners.

In game number two Storm faced Dorchester.  The Storm side struggled to cope with the hustle that Dorchester came out with, and several times the team gave the ball away in dangerous areas allowing Dorchester chances to score.  At the end of the first quarter a Harry Batson lay-up gave Storm an 8 – 6 lead.  Storm were far more composed in the second quarter, stronger passes and improved defence saw the team take a 16 – 7 lead into the half time break.  A tight third quarter saw neither team able to make any headway as the game score was 20 – 9 to Storm.  In the final quarter the play was fast and free-flowing, but Storms good play allowed them to be victorious by a score of 28 – 18.

In the final game of the tournament Dorchester beat Weymouth 26 – 21.

A huge well done to all the players for record wins in both their games.  Even more impressive is the fact that every player for Storm scored a basket!  Now the challenge is to keep getting better.  A big thank you to the noisy support on the sideline too… much appreciated!!!
