Under 12s improve to dominate second game

Dorset Storm Under 12s faced Weymouth and Dorchester in the Solent Leagues opening tournament of the New Year.

Storm got off to a slow start against Weymouth, finding themselves 6 – 0 down early on.  They started to fight back in the second period with scores from Jamie Holgate, but trailed 8 – 6 at the half.  Storm continued to work hard, and slowly began to think about what they were doing offensively as both teams traded blows in the third quarter which finished with the score 14 – 12 to Weymouth.  Despite Storms best effort, they could get into the lead and eventually fell to an agonising 22 – 21 defeat.

In the middle game Dorchester beat Weymouth 19 – 17.

Storm were given clear instructions to spread the floor and give each other plenty of space to operate in.  The message finally got through and Storm dominated from the opening tip.  They raced into an 8 – 2 lead at the end of quarter one.  They continued to put their foot on the gas in the second quarter, upping their lead to 12 – 5.   It was an even more impressive performance in the second half as they dominated the game – something that they have not done so far this season.  They played some great basketball to turn around a three consecutive losses to win by an incredible 36 – 11 scoreline!

This team certainly has what it takes to be a really good one!  They must however play with this much pace and energy in every game, and make sure they spread the floor out to create the spaces like they did in todays second game.  A great performance in the second game, now the challenge is to keep it up!
