NBL Preview – Under 18s versus Wiltshire Wolves

Dorset Storm Under 18s return home to face Wiltshire Wolves in their final game of the year.

Storm will be looking to combine the recent performances against Gwent and UWIC into one game to finish 2011 on a high as coach Jill Kemish explained:

“We had a good defensive display against UWIC and a good offensive display against Gwent, this week we want to combine the two and have a total performance.

We are improving all the time; training has been good with the players working hard.  Now we want to put it together for 40 minutes of quality basketball.”

Storm played hard throughout at the defensive end last time out at home against UWIC, but against Gwent never played defence with enough consistency to give themselves a chance in the game.

“Last weekend we never got enough stops, something that we ere good at doing the week before.

The keys for us don’t change, we have to play defence and rebound the ball well, when we do those things we play with confidence all over the court.”

Storm will know what to expect from Wiltshire, a powerful team with height in every position will look to make their size and strength advantage pay for Storm pounding the ball in side and looking to score around the hoop.

Kemish said that it would be crucial for the players to have belief in their own ability and expected the senior players to step up and set the tone.

“This is the sort of game where you want your senior players to set an aggressive and positive atmosphere, we want their attitudes to be contagious, we want them to set the tone from the first minute to the last. ”

The coaching staff are hopeful of having a full complement of players to select from for this weekends match, but as usual are yet to confirm their team selection.
