Dorset Storm I Under 16s kicked of their opening matches of the Solent League in style.  In their opening game they faced Dorchester, and after a slow start the team started to control the pace of the game, with Charlie Harland scoring a brace of buckets towards the end of the quarter.  At the end of one, Storm lead 11 – 8.  A brighter start to the second quarter saw Storm open up a larger lead and some good offensive rebounding meant by the half way stage they held a 27 – 17 lead.  A 10 – 0 run to start the second half proved to be decisive as Storm opened up a 20-point lead, Harland and Daniel Message scoring four each.  Storm continued to grow in confidence and a strong fourth quarter performance wrapped up an opening game victory over Dorchester 63 – 33.

In the middle game Weymouth beat Dorchester 52 – 13.

The final match saw the nights two unbeaten teams face each other.  Both teams exchanged baskets before an 11 – 0 tear midway through the quarter saw Storm propel themselves into the lead – Maykel Patino scored six in succession.  Weymouth came fighting back in the second quarter and some careless shooting allowed their opponents to get back into the game, trailing at the end of the half 32 – 27.

Storm had a good third quarter, and regained their first quarter advantage, leading 44 – 32 heading into the final stanza. The final quarter was a nip and tuck affair, but a couple of important baskets inside from Dan Message maintained the lead for Storm I who sneaked out a 53 – 47 victory to win their second match of the tournament.

Congratulations to all the players involved and thank you to all the supporters.
