SBL Under 14s chalk up two W’s

Dorset Storm Under 14s I Solent League team got off to the perfect start in the Solent League on Friday night.

Tournament Report

Dorset Storm (11, 4, 5, 2) 22    Salisbury (2, 8, 4, 4) 18

Dorset Storm (7, 12, 10, 5) 34    Weymouth (12, 6, 4, 8) 30

In the opening game of the day Storm faced Salisbury. After a slow start Storm started to play some better basketball and by the half way mark had opened up a 15 – 10 lead on the back of a flurry of baskets from Lewis Pettitt.  Storm continued to play well in the third quarter and had extended their lead to six by the end of the quarter.  A poor fourth quarter made the last few minutes very tense, but a Nathan Mahoney basket in the penultimate minute settled the nerves as Storm won 22 – 18.

In the middle game Salisbury beat Weymouth 15 – 10.

In the final match of the day Weymouth and Storm faced each other.  A poor start from Storm saw Weymouth race into a commanding 12 – 7 lead at the end of the opening quarter.  Storm improved, especially at the defensive end in the second quarter, with Mahoney and Davey doing some serious damage on the offensive end too.  By the half, Storm led 18 – 19!  Storm continued where they finished the half as they opened with a 6 – 2 run.  They managed to keep this momentum for the remainder of the game, and a couple of strong finishes from Scott Herron completed a 34 – 30 comeback victory for Storm.

A big thank you to all the supports from all the teams who made lots of noise all night.
